PHOENIX - Three juveniles and seven adults were apprehended in an apparent human smuggling operation, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office investigation.
The juveniles--an eight-year-old, 11-year-old and 16-year-old--were traveling through Arizona on May 10, 2013 with a group of adults, as part of a human smuggling operation, with their final destinations being in New York and Georgia.
MCSO said six of the suspects were booked into the 4th Avenue Jail, while four were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents.
The 11-year-old, according to MCSO, was traveling unaccompanied and was not related to any of the other adults.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had paid up to $4,000 to be illegally smuggled into the U.S., according to MCSO.
