A 7-year-old girl was honored on Tuesday after she saved her family from a house fire in Phoenix last month.

On April 13, Monibelle Townsend was awoken by a smoke alarm in her home near 7th Avenue and Hatcher Road.

Fire officials say Monibelle got up, smelled smoke, and then woke up her 6-year-old brother and her grandmother, and escorted both of them out of the house to safety.

Monibelle's house was destroyed by the blaze, officials said.

This incident was days after she had classes with Phoenix firefighters on how to get out of a house fire safely.

On Tuesday, Phoenix fire personnel awarded Monibelle with a Citizen Lifesaving Award.
