Phoenix fire crews rescue 2 off Echo Canyon trail

PHOENIX - Two people were rescued by fire personnel off Echo Canyon Thursday.

Phoenix Fire Captain Ruben Savedra said crews were called to the Camelback Mountain trail at 10:30 a.m. to assist a 20-year-old down the mountain, who complained of hip pain.

During that rescue, a 30-year-old woman further up the trail was complaining of a leg injury and heat exhaustion, he said.

Technical crews used a helicopter to remove the woman of the mountain.

The fire department is reminding hikers to wear light colored clothing, a hat and drink water when hiking during the summer heat.
