PHOENIX - A driver has died after an early Saturday morning car accident near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road, said authorities.
According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos, a Nissan Sentra was driving southbound in the curb lane on 43rd Avenue when the driver realized he had missed his turn after going through the intersection at Bell Road. He attempted to make a U-turn, but turned directly into a Hyundai Sante Fe going southbound in the inside lane, said Martos.
The Santa Fe directly hit the driver of the Nissan crushing the passenger compartment, Martos said. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after arriving.
Passengers in the Nissan were injured during the crash, but are expected to be OK.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation and impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
