PD: Neighbor shot in hand during domestic dispute in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Phoenix police are investigating after a shooting near Cave Creek Road and Greenway Parkway on Friday morning.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend were having a domestic dispute and the man threatened to kill himself.

The man went into a bedroom and the girlfriend heard gunshots, thinking he'd followed through on his threat.

Instead, he'd fired shots into the wall of the bedroom which traveled through a window of a neighbor's house across the street.

The 39-year-old victim, who was holding a cup of coffee at the time, was struck in the wrist.

The victim then walked across to his neighbor's house to secure the weapon before police arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neighbors are grateful for his courageous act.

"It was a good thing that he went over there to make sure everything was fine. That was a good thing," said Esther Guevara.

Thompson said the suspect was arrested and faces several charges.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or victim.
