PHOENIX - Police say a man riding a motorcycle late Friday night died after crashing into a U-Haul truck in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said the collision happened just before midnight at Bell Road and 43rd Street.
Crump said the U-Haul truck traveling westbound on Bell Road was in the process of making a left turn onto southbound 43rd Street.
The motorcyclist, who was going eastbound, collided with the passenger side of the U-Haul truck, Crump said.
Police learned that the motorcyclist had just purchased his motorcycle on the same day and was operating it for the first time, Crump said.
He said the motorcyclist was riding without a headlight or any other lighting equipment.
He was wearing a helmet and other protective equipment but received critical injuries and died in a local hospital, Crump said.
The driver of the U-Haul truck was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt.
The driver was evaluated, and impairment was not a factor, Crump said.
