PHOENIX - A passenger on a motorcycle was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when he went airborne as the driver suddenly put on the brakes.
Phoenix police Lt. Tracey Miiller said a witness saw the motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed and tried to pull over to the right near Cave Creek and Bell roads.
The witness told police the motorcycle went around the vehicle and locked up its brakes, sending the passenger airborne.
Miiller said the passenger struck the back of a black pickup truck and became stuck underneath the wheel well.
The driver laid the bike down about 50 feet down the road.
Phoenix fire Capt. Tony Mure described the rider and passenger as 17- and 25-year-old males.
Miiller said the motorcycle operator was taken away to be processed for DUI.
