PHOENIX - Police say a woman was shot and killed by officers Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. near 16th Avenue and Bell Road after a woman made a 911 call to report a man with a gun was holding several people hostage in a home.
When officers arrived they saw the front door open. They approached with rifles. A 58-year-old woman came out of the home holding a gun and pointed it at police, according to authorities.
Police say the woman refused to put the weapon down and officers fired their weapons, striking and killing the woman.
Police interviewed nine people who were in the home. Detectives learned on one in the home was being held hostage and no one was injured.
Sgt. Steve Martos said the woman was depressed and told people she was going to "commit suicide by cop" today.
