A man was rescued from North Mountain overnight after an all-day snake-hunting hike, according to officials.

According to officials at the scene early Thursday morning, police and fire crews went to the mountain after reports of an injured person.

Officers and mountain rescue personnel hiked up to search for the man, who they found safe.

The man, said to be in his 50s, told officials that he had taken the city bus to the mountain around 10 a.m. on Wednesday to go snake hunting.

He brought beer along for the hike and was out all day, but called police around 1:30 a.m. Thursday because it was too dark to get down on his own.

Fire officials are not going to charge the man for the mountain rescue, but he could be cited by police for being at the park after hours.
