Man holds police in 4-hour standoff in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Police evacuated a north Phoenix neighborhood after an armed man barricaded himself inside a residence overnight.

Phoenix police say the incident began around 10 p.m. Thursday when officers responded to a domestic violence call involving a weapon near 51st Avenue and Happy Valley Road.

A male barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the garage, armed with a number of weapons and threatening to kill himself, police said.

Negotiators talked with the man for about four hours during which time he showed them a number of times he had at least two guns.

Homes in the immediate area were evacuated.

The man was eventually taken into custody on a number of charges, including aggravated assault.

Police did not release the man's name.
