PHOENIX - Part of a Phoenix-area freeway was closed midday Monday for the funeral procession for a Phoenix police officer fatally shot a week ago.
Detective John Hobbs was fatally shot March 3 by a suspect who himself was fatally shot by police.
Hobbs' funeral began 10 a.m. Monday at Christ's Church of the Valley in Peoria.
After the service, the eastbound Loop 101 freeway in Glendale and Phoenix was closed between 75th Avenue and 7th Street at approximately 12 p.m. for Hobbs' procession.
The 43-year-old Hobbs was a 21-year police veteran and a member of a unit geared at apprehending violent criminals.
