PHOENIX - Authorities say two units burned after a fire started in an apartment complex in North Phoenix Thursday morning.
Phoenix fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the fire was initially contained to one apartment, but spread to another.
Saavedra said three of the surrounding apartments are vacant.
Air15 video showed flames and smoke coming from the roof connecting two apartments at the Desert Star Apartment Community near 11th Avenue and Bell Road just after 11 a.m.
Saavedra said the fire started as new residents were moving into the apartment. He said a resident placed some boxes on the stove after the utilities had been turned on and the boxes caught fire.
Saavedra said the fire was contained to two apartments.
Five people have been displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported.
