FD: Tree fire sparked when SUV hits power pole after shots were fired

PHOENIX - Phoenix police say a gunshot was fired at a gas station at Cave Creek and Greenway Parkway, hitting an SUV.

The SUV fled down Greenway Parkway and may have lost control because of slick roads from the rain.

Firefighters say the SUV then slammed into a power pole, which fell onto a palm tree and sparked a fire.

Firefighters said two to three people fled the SUV on foot.

Police blocked off the roads in the area while firefighters monitored the fire in the tree, waiting for Arizona Public Service crews to get there and cut the power.

Firefighters said they had to wait about an hour and a half as the tree smoldered. Once APS arrived they were able to put it out.

APS then got the power back on in about 10 minutes.

Firefighters say no one was hurt.

Police are investigating why that gunshot was fired.
