PHOENIX - A toddler has died after he was pulled from a backyard pool in North Phoenix Sunday afternoon.
Phoenix fire Capt. Tony Mure said the 1 1/2-year-old boy had been in the water up to 10 minutes before he was found by his parents at a home near 32nd Avenue and Cactus Road.
The child's 11-year-old sister was also home at the time.
When firefighters arrived, the father was already performing CPR on the toddler.
The boy was taken to Banner Thunderbird Hospital in critical condition.
He was pronounced deceased at the hospital, according to police.
Officials say there was no fence around the pool.
"It's just horrible," said neighbor Stu Kaner. "I have a grandson about that age and I can't imagine what they are going through."
Police are investigating, but say it appears to be a tragic accident.
