PD: Man dies after Phoenix house fire

PHOENIX - One person has died after a fire broke out at a home north of the Valley.  

The fully involved garage fire started Saturday morning around 6:20 a.m. near Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway, Phoenix fire said.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson, the victim has been identified as 44-year-old Carl Zeman.

When units arrived on the scene they found Zeman and his dog inside the home. Zeman and his dog were pulled out of the home and medical treatment was started, officials said.

The victim was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition but later died.

No firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze. Investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Initial indications show that criminal activity does not appear to be a factor.

There is no word on the condition of the dog.
