PHOENIX - A family of eight has been displaced after their North Phoenix home caught fire Thursday morning.
Phoenix fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said crews responded to the home near 17th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 11 a.m. where they found heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the house.
The residents said they smelled smoke and saw fire in the back of the house.
They got everyone out before firefighters arrived.
Saavedra said the fire was challenging for crews based on the amount of fire and hidden fire located in concealed spaces.
A Phoenix Fire crisis team and the Red Cross are helping the family, which includes four children.
Investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause of the fire.
