PHOENIX - Northbound lanes of Interstate 17 have reopened following a deadly accident at Bell Road Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened just before 3 p.m. and involved two vehicles.
According to the Department of Transportation, the northbound lanes are closed at Greenway Road.
Initially, an ADOT camera showed just the right two lanes blocked, but the freeway was completely shut down by 4 p.m.
Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Tony Mure said one person was killed in the crash and that a woman and child were taken to the hospital.
On Sunday, the Department of Public Safety identified the person killed as 42-year-old Phoenix resident Michael E. Peters.
DPS said Felicia S. Peters, 43, and a seven-year-old boy were injured.
In the second vehicle, 21-year-old Estefania G. Murrieta from Phoenix did not suffer any injuries.
DPS said the accident happened when the vehicle driven by Murrietta blew a tire and lost control, veering to the left.
That car struck a Chevy van driven by Michael Peters, which rolled a number of times, coming to rest on its roof on the Bell Road exit.
Authorities say Felicia Peters was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the van.
The child suffered minor injuries.
A donation fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank under the name, Felicia Peters.
