PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters responded to possible chemical exposure by numerous workers Tuesday morning who reported feeling ill at a recycling and trash transfer facility on the city's far northern outskirts.
The facility is near Interstate 17 and Carefree Highway.
Fire Capt. Larry Nunez said 19 workers reported varying symptoms that include scratchy throats, chest pain and vomiting.
However, Nunez said they all refused to be transported to a hospital and were checked over by fire crews at the scene.
Nunez said fire crews were unable to locate any type of hazardous material.
The city of Phoenix recycling plant was turned back over to the contractor, who will bring an industrial hygienist to check and clean the area.
