PHOENIX - A 27-year-old Phoenix man has been arrested for a
wrong-way collision that killed a woman and left a man with serious injuries early last month.
Benjamin Charles Kuzelka was taken into custody on November 7 by Department of Public Safety detectives when he was released from the hospital where he was recovering from injuries suffered in the collision.
According to DPS, around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 6, Kuzelka drove the wrong way northbound in the southbound HOV lane on State Route 51 between Bell and Greenway roads.
He collided head-on with an SUV driven by Raja Marlmuthu. Marlmuthu suffered serious injuries.
His passenger, Mary A. Boysman, 55, of Oswego, New York, was taken to a local hospital where she died. DPS says Boysman, who was sitting in the right rear seat of the SUV, was not wearing a seatbelt.
DPS says detectives are recommending Kuzelka be charged with aggravated assault, five counts of endangerment, aggravated DUI and criminal damage.
