PD: Motorcyclist dies after north Phoenix crash

PHOENIX - Police say a motorcyclist has died after he collided with a car Wednesday afternoon in north Phoenix.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near Cave Creek Road and Union Hills Drive.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Larry Nunez said the bike burst into flames and the rider, 20-year-old Angelo Wright, was thrown about 200 feet after the crash.

Nunez said Wright was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died. Authorities said he was not wearing a helmet.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said an 84-year-old woman was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit in the collision.

She was traveling eastbound on Union Hills and tried to make a left turn at Cave Creek Road, Martos said.

The driver failed to yield and collided with Wright, said Martos. She suffered minor injuries.
