Parents leave 2 children alone in car at Cave Creek bar

CAVE CREEK, AZ - Two people were arrested for child endangerment after a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy found two children alone in a car at a Cave Creek bar late Friday night.

MCSO said the deputy was on routine patrol and noticed the children, ages 3 and 4, sitting in the car alone.

Their mother, Desiree David, and father, Landrey Alex, came out of the bar shortly after and were found to be intoxicated more than double the legal limit, according to MCSO.

An investigation by the deputy revealed that the parents and children had arrived at the restaurant and bar around 8:30 p.m. The parents are believed to have then placed the children in the car around 11:00 p.m. so they could continue drinking.

David and Alex, both of Mesa, were arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on child abuse/endangerment charges, which are class 5 felonies.

After Child Protective Services was contacted, the children were turned over to their grandmother, according to MCSO.

"This was great police work by my deputies and potentially saved the lives of these two children, their parents and anyone who they may have passed on the highway, since it was believed they were going to drive home intoxicated," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "These individuals will be held accountable for their irresponsible actions."
