PHOENIX - Police say a man is dead after a fight at a Phoenix apartment complex.
Officer James Holmes said police were called to the complex near 17th Avenue and Hatcher Road around 11:45 a.m. for a report of a fight.
When officers arrived they found the 22-year-old victim in the swimming pool area suffering from an upper body injury.
He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police did not describe how the victim was injured.
The victim, identified as a maintenance worker for the apartment complex, and the suspect, a resident, had been involved in physical fight and both fell into the pool, witnesses told police.
Both men got out of the pool and continued to fight. Holmes said the suspect, 38-year-old Daniel Lee Cook, was seen striking the victim with an object then leaving the area to go to his apartment. Witnesses said he had blood on him.
Police searched the apartment for the suspect but he wasn't found, Holmes said.
Cook is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He possibly has a goatee/mustache. No photograph was immediately available.
The investigation and search for Cook is continuing and Holmes said anyone with information is urged to call the Phoenix Police Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or to remain anonymous call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
