A group gathered downtown Sunday to place more than 150 handmade items designed to help those in need get through the winter.

The Yarn Bomb, as it is called, featured scarves, hats and other items knit by Knitting It Forward, a group from Happy Valley that has spent the past six months knitting for those in need.

Mary Morgan said she was inspired by a similar group to go out into the streets and pass out clothes to keep people warm. The kindness has been contagious, as the items handed out have come from as far away as the East Coast.

"This is not just made by me. It's made by knitting groups in Phoenix [and] we get items from women as far away as Florida," Morgan said.
