It's a story that will have you shaking your head in disbelief and smiling at the end.
Four years ago, Dennie was diagnosed with cancer and the odds weren't looking good. Afraid that she could no longer take care of her dog, Chief, she gave him up to the pound.
She assumed he was put down.
He wasn't. He was transferred to a shelter and adopted out to a new family. But, at some point, Chief became lost.
Years later, he was found and ended up being brought to radio host Johnjay Van Es' animal rescue. However, the once-white husky looked a little different: he was spray painted like a target and very dirty.
After he was cleaned up, fate had another powerful surprise up her sleeve. Dennie defied the odds and beat her illness.
And Chief? He was microchipped and that led Johnjay (and Chief) to Dennie.
Now the two have reconnected.
"I didn't know if she was full of it, is she crazy? She said she called her kids on the East Coast and the kids were gonna have an intervention with her thinking she was crazy, but it's her dog. I mean you can see. So yeah it was a powerful moment for me," said Van Es.
