Woman rescued from car in flooded wash in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Phoenix fire and rescue crews pulled a woman to safety Friday night after her car got stuck in a flooded wash.

A torrential downpour flooded 7th Avenue near Coral Gables Drive.

Jalena Bear was at Moon Valley Park when she saw the woman drive through the wash and says the car stalled in the middle of the water.

She says the rushing water started to rise and swept the car further off the road, pinning it against a concrete barrier and trapping the driver inside the car.

“You could see the sheer panic on her face, the water was rising, she was wringing out her shirt. It was freaky,” Bear said.

Bear called 911 immediately and watched Phoenix fire crews perform a swift water tactical rescue.

She says firefighters were rigged up to a safety line and knocked out the car’s back window, pulling the woman out before loading her onto a gurney to be checked out by paramedics.
