Woman found in middle of Phoenix street, officials investigating as hit and run

PHOENIX - Officials are investigating after a woman’s body was found in a Phoenix street on Thursday morning.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said the body was found near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road just after 2:00 a.m.

The scene is being investigated as a hit and run, Martos said.

Tire tracks were found on the victim, later identified as 49-year-old Patricia Anne Herrera, but no car fragments were found in the area, according to police.

Officials believe the vehicle that fled the scene could be maroon in color.

The eastbound lanes of Thomas Road were closed for several hours while officials completed their investigation. The road is now back open.
