Woman dies after bus crash in Phoenix, baby delivered by emergency C-section still alive

PHOENIX - The pregnant female passenger of a car that collided with a bus died Tuesday from injuries sustained in Sunday’s crash, according to officials.

The woman, 26-year-old Machozi Lububim, had an emergency Cesarean section after the crash.

The baby, born at 28 weeks, is still alive, according to Sgt. James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department.

Lububim was in a car being driven by a 36-year-old man on Sunday morning when he ran a red light and hit a bus with 40 passengers at 24th Avenue and McDowell Road, police say.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, Holmes said.

No one on the bus was hurt, and a 1-year-old and 3-year-old in the car received only minor injuries, according to Holmes.

Police say the driver might have been distracted when the crash happened, but they’re still investigating the incident.
