'Winter in July' at Phoenix Zoo gives animals, guests a break from the heat with snow and ice

PHOENIX - The animals at the Phoenix Zoo got a special summer treat and reprieve from the heat this morning at the "Winter in July" event.

Thousands of people around the Valley gathered to watch elephants, pigs, orangutans, otters and more chow down on icy treats and even got to see Phoenix Fire Department give an elephant a bath with their powerful fire hoses.

Guests also got to enjoy a little ice in the desert with fun activities with snowballs, snow and water play areas and lots of delicious, cool snacks.

Throughout the year, Phoenix Zoo offers several different seasonal events for guests and animals, including winter holiday Zoo Lights and Halloween festivities.
