Will Connecticut school shooting revive officers in schools across America?

PHOENIX - How to best protect children while they are at school may be a big topic in the coming weeks.

One program already in place to do so, is the School Resource Officer (SRO) programs across the country.

But over the past few years, SRO programs have been cut as a way to save state's money under budget pressure.

Most SRO programs are funded by state grants.

Some estimates show that Arizona have lost about half it's resource officers over the past few years.

But some districts also report SRO's coming back lately.

A school district in Iowa hired a security firm to protect schools after resource officers were cut.
