Wear orange for Hunger Awareness Day

MESA, AZ - Local food banks and charities are urging people to wear orange Thursday to gain awareness for hunger.
The campaign is a nationwide effort and September 4th is designated Hunger Awareness Day.
At United Food Bank in Mesa, the shelves are lacking a bit which is common for the summer when donations are down.
"Hunger is a 365 day problem," said Melissa Forrester, a spokesperson.
We give out 2 million pounds of food every month, but our estimates show we are still about half a million pounds short of the need that is out there.
Forrester explained that there appears to be more need because more people are telling them that their hours have been cut and have lost benefits.
Forrester and other agencies are pushing hard for donations of food, money or volunteer time to cope with the need.
