Volunteers prepare for Fiesta Bowl Parade

PHOENIX - Volunteers are busy getting ready for the 41st annual Fiesta Bowl Parade that will roll down Central Avenue Saturday in Phoenix.

The 2-mile parade will kick off at 11 a.m. on Central Avenue just north of Montebello Avenue.

You will be able to watch the parade LIVE on ABC15.com and streaming on your smartphone with the ABC15 Mobile app .

Crews are assembling bleachers and putting last-minute touches on floats in preparation for an estimated 100,000 spectators.

The parade will travel south on Central Avenue to Camelback Road, continuing east on Camelback to Seventh Street and south toward Indian School Road.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson will lead the parade, in addition to participating in pregame festivities and the coin toss at the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2.

You'll also see a one-of-a-kind float.

It's a massive eagle with a moveable head that follows the movements of a puppeteer inside the bird.

It was built by Jaypro Studios at the request of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.

An operator lays inside the belly of the foam raptor with controls for the head and a pair of goggles which feed him images from a camera mounted below the beak.

That way the eagle can interact with bystanders along the parade route.
