Volunteer posse member shot in Phoenix to receive $15,000 from MCSO Sheriff's Office Memorial Fund

PHOENIX - A volunteer posse member injured during a robbery-turned-shooting on New Year's Eve received a $15,000 check from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office memorial fund.

Phillip Grigg was shot while rendering aid to an officer after a pursuit of the suspects.

The Sheriff's Office Memorial Fund and Sheriff Joe Arpaio presented the check to Grigg's wife Wednesday afternoon.

The 63-year-old remains hospitalized in stable, but critical condition, however, authorities said he is "improving." Phoenix police officer Scott Sefranka, 34, has been upgraded to stable condition and moved out of the ICU after suffering a gunshot wound during the pursuit.

Arpaio said all of the monies raised for the memorial fund go directly to the families of fallen or injured officers and deputies.
