VIDEO: Sheriff Joe Arpaio talks SB 1070, DREAM Act

PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio visited ABC15 right when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Arizona's controversial Senate Bill 1070 regarding illegal immigration.

The Supreme Court upheld the requirement for police, while enforcing other laws, to question people's immigration status if officers have reasonable suspicion they're in the country illegally.

"I think that's important. We've been doing it anyway for four years, but I think it was a good ruling," Arpaio said.

It however struck down a requirement that all immigrants obtain or carry immigration registration papers, a provision making it a state criminal offense for an illegal immigrant to seek work or hold a job, and a provision that would allow police to arrest suspected illegal immigrants without warrants.

"I think the president's recent decision on the DREAM Act is a precursor to amnesty. It's going to be very interesting to see if ICE now picks up those that we determine are here illegally," Arpaio said.
