PHOENIX - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer held a news conference Monday morning to voice her reaction to the Supreme Court upholding what she calls "the heart of SB 1070."
As soon as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Arizona's controversial immigration law around 7:20 a.m., Brewer sent out a news release expressing that she was "grateful for this legal victory".
The Supreme Court struck down three portions of Senate Bill 1070 but upheld the requirement for police, while enforcing other laws, to question people's immigration status if officers have reasonable suspicion they're in the country illegally.
"Civil rights will be protected. Racial profiling will not be tolerated," Brewer said. "Senate Bill 1070 is equally committed to upholding the rule of law while ensuring that the constitutional rights of all in Arizona are protected."
