PHOENIX - A fire that began late Sunday night burned through a third floor apartment near 44th Street and the Loop 202 freeway.
A Phoenix fire official said the first crews were dispatched around 9:40 p.m. as a water flow call.
Once on scene they found an obvious attic fire, according to spokesman Larry Nunez.
The response was bumped up to a second alarm and a number of homes were evacuated at the Palazzo Townhome complex.
In spite of the heavy flames, firefighters were able to get control of the fire fairly quickly.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, although residents said it may have been started by a heater, according to Nunez.
