Sgt. Tommy Thompson, spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, said police allege 56-year-old Michael Dante Guzzo shot a family of four inside a townhome near 17th Avenue and Hazelwood Street.
Authorities identified the victims as 17-year-old Shannon Moore, 36-year-old Renee Moore, 42-year-old Michael Moore, and 66-year-old Bruce Moore.
The gunman's body was later found inside a neighboring home. He is believed to have died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said police. Officers found a shotgun, believed to be the murder weapon, next to his body.
Thompson said the shooting occurred sometime before 9 a.m. inside the Moore's townhome, which is located next to Guzzo's. The gunman is then believed to have left the townhome after the shooting and fired shots through the window and door of a different home in the same complex.
Libni DeLeon said he heard a knock on his door early Saturday morning, and then before he knew it, the suspect was shooting through his front door.
"I ran upstairs and when I got there I got a glance at him (the suspect) and I yelled at him and he turned around and shot two more rounds upstairs."
DeLeon said the bullet holes are now scattered around his house, including one that went through the bathroom and into the kitchen. He's thankful his family was upstairs out of harm's way.
Neighbors describe the Moore family, and specifically the oldest victim Bruce, as quiet people. They said Bruce lived in the townhome for at least 10 years. They also said Bruce's daughter Renee was also in the home, as well as her husband Michael who had just come back from China where he was serving in the military. Some said Bruce would walk the youngest victim, Shannon, to the bus stop at the corner to go to school.
Bruce's brother Douglas told ABC15, he would be on the phone with Bruce and would often hear Guzzo in the background screaming about barking dogs.
Records show Guzzo is a divorcee who has lived at the complex for about a year and a half. He's also shown to be a licensed pharmacist.
Authorities did not release any further details related to what sparked the shooting.
