Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is sending a strong warning to the federal government concerning the illegal immigrants bring dropped off in Arizona.
In a letter to the head of the Arizona Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, he promised to file criminal charges against ICE if local law enforcement found unaccompanied, undocumented teens dropped off by ICE in the county.
Montgomery says he's concerned about how the minors will take care of themselves.
“Where will they sleep? Where will they find their next meal?”
The Department of Homeland Security claims all unaccompanied minors are held in government facilities across the country, including a facility in Nogales, Ariz.
“I've had people with local organizations that are waiting for the immigrants that are being dropped off by ICE at the bus station tell me that they have seen unaccompanied minors,” said Montgomery.
He's worried about a much bigger issue and that the minors will become targets.
“Arizona has a human trafficking issue. The Federal Government is not giving us the names of those released in Arizona. So these kids could easily slip into the darkness and we will never see them again,” said Montgomery.
