CENTRAL PHOENIX - Phoenix police are searching for two men who kidnapped a homeless man from a vacant house near 31st Avenue and Tonto Street.
Sergeant Tommy Thompson says that 36-year-old Joel Lawhone and a 49-year-old woman, both homeless, were staying in the unoccupied home.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, two unknown Hispanic men entered the home and accused Lawhone of inappropriate contact with their niece.
After forcing Lawhone into their car, they grabbed the woman by her hair and pulled her toward the car. She grabbed hold of a nearby fence and began to scream, which drew the attention of bystanders. The suspects left the woman and fled the scene with Lawhone inside the car.
Phoenix Police describe the suspects’ vehicle as a 1990 Black Nissan Altima with a gray front bumper and body damage on the driver's side.
Detectives have not been able to locate Lawhone. They are concerned about his welfare due to a significant amount of blood they found inside the house.
Anyone who has more information about the incident or knows where the victim, suspects, or suspect vehicle may be should contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151. They can also call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
