PHOENIX - A hazardous-materials incident involving a small fuel spill backed up traffic in central Phoenix on Monday.
Southbound traffic on Interstate 17 just south of the Stack interchange with Interstate 10 west of downtown was backed up for a mile because at least two lanes were closed.
Photos posted on Twitter by ADOT showed fire trucks blocking the two right-hand lanes and ADOT said a ramp from westbound I-10 to southbound I-17 was closed.
The Department of Public Safety said the spill involved a tractor-trailer that is dripping fuel after debris hit one of its fuel tanks.
DPS said several collisions were reported in the area along southbound I-17 related to the backup.
