Toddler flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital after being shot by pellet gun, expected to be OK

Aguila, AZ - A three-year-old toddler was taken to the hospital after being shot by a pellet rifle.

The toddler and a 9-year-old were playing with a pellet gun when it fired and shot the three-year-old in the abdomen, said Chris Hegstrom, Public Information Officer for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The child was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital where doctors could remove the pellets. The child is expected to be OK.

Air15 video showed the helicopter landing at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is reminding parents to secure weapons in their homes.
