Tips to save money during pool season in Arizona

PHOENIX - The summer months take a toll on your pool and your pocket book.
The average swimming pool is 15,000 gallons and will lose its entire volume to evaporation each year.
Brian Morris of "We Fix Ugly Pools" explains there are some things you can do to prevent the costly water loss.
"The robotic pool vacuums are great for use when needed during the day instead of the pump," he said.
He said try to avoid turning on water features during the hottest part of the day.
Pool covers can help reduce evaporation and there are several to choose from including a liquid pool cover that creates an invisible seal.
Morris said those products can help but they can also retain heat in the pool which may counter what you are trying to accomplish during the summer months.
Morris said the primary thing you want to do is keep the water temperature cool since the heat can exacerbate the situation and create more evaporation.
If you have an automatic water leveler you can also lower it by an inch or two in order to reduce the amount of water lost from splashing.
