PHOENIX - It’s that time of year when you might not look forward to getting your electric bill.
Erik Bryan from Precision Air and Heating joined ABC15 Mornings to help us get the most out of our air conditioners and keep our bills down.
Bryan said homeowners should change air filters monthly. He says it’s dusty in the Valley and all the traffic into and out of the home brings dust inside.
When you’re buying an A/C filter, Bryan said most of us are buying the “box filter” which you can see through and consequently is only filtering about 15 percent of the dust particles.
One filter, costing about $75, has a lifetime warranty and will filter about 92 percent of the air. It’s an electrostatic, anti-microbial filter and will greatly minimize the amount of dirt getting into your home, Bryan said.
But, do the heavier air filters block the air flow of your air conditioner? Bryan says they don’t and it’s a misconception that you have to clean or change them less often.
Bryan recommends getting a licensed contractor to inspect your A/C system to help avoid a breakdown this summer.
