A well-known Valley store has filed for bankruptcy protection.

The RoomStore will be laying off employees beginning February 7.

According to Furniture Today, employees were told the layoffs could be permanent, and their last day of work could be sooner or later than that date.

The company has 10 locations throughout the Valley, a clearance center in Phoenix and a store in Prescott.

In a letter to employees, founder Alan Levitz said, the reorganization is due to a long-standing downturn in business. He said, the company will attempt to continue operations at several stores. If those efforts are successful, he said, some employees may be called back to work.

“However, because the success of such efforts is unknown at this time, no RoomStore employee who is currently designated for layoff should count on continued employment with the company,” said Levitz.
