PHOENIX - The would-be adoptive mother of a missing Arizona baby is free after serving a 30-day jail sentence.
The Arizona Republic reports that Tammi Peters Smith was released early Saturday from a Maricopa County jail.
Smith was sentenced to jail on convictions on charges of forgery and conspiracy to commit custodial interference.
Prosecutors called Smith an obsessed woman who would stop at nothing to win custody of the boy. Defense attorneys said she was just looking out for the child and his mother.
Gabriel was 8 months old when he was last seen in December 2009 in San Antonio.
His mother, Elizabeth Johnson, told the boy's father that she killed Gabriel and put him in the trash. Johnson later said she gave the baby to a Texas couple.
