PHOENIX - Authorities say a suspect was injured in a police-involved shooting in central Phoenix Friday night.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the suspect was shot when he threw a sharp weapon at officers.
Thompson said the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. None of the officers were hurt.
Thompson said the incident started near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road where officers responded to an apartment complex on an unrelated call.
While there they were approached by someone who said they were being chased by a man with an axe.
Thompson said the suspect came running with an axe and maybe three other sharp weapons and threw one of the weapons at the officers.
An officer shot the suspect, there was no word on how many times the suspect was struck.
The incident is now under investigation.
Thompson said the shooting happened about a block away from where officers first encountered the suspect.
