Suspect in 2001 assault, murder extradited to Phoenix from Mississippi

PHOENIX - A suspect in a June 2001 assault and murder has been extradited to Phoenix following a case review that began two years ago.

According to Phoenix Police, 35-year-old Michael Cornell Moye was arrested in Moss Point, Miss. and brought back to Phoenix Thursday.

Moye is believed to be connected to the assault of a store clerk and the shooting death of a 41-year-old customer, Jaime Olivera-Perez, inside the Dollar Store located near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.

Detectives reportedly worked the case, but all leads went cold until they reopened the case and used newer technologies and investigative work, police said.

Moye has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and has been booked into Maricopa County Jail.

Silent Witness is asking anyone with more information to come forward. Police are unsure if there are more suspects related to the incident or if there was a motive.

Anyone with information should contact 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
