PHOENIX - A man involved in a short-lived Friday afternoon pursuit has been taken into police custody.
Department of Public Safety Officer Carrick Cook said officers initially attempted to stop a speeding Chevrolet Van, when the driver, in his 20s, tried to hit a patrol vehicle and then took off, leading crews from State Route 51 to Interstate 10 to Interstate 17.
The suspect, wearing a white t-shirt and a black backpack, drove his vehicle through some south Phoenix streets before exiting the van and fleeing on foot.
The suspect ran through an alley near 39th Avenue and Shermann where he was eventually tackled by an officer, said Cook.
Air15 video showed officers subduing the suspect and placing him in a nearby police car. Multiple police vehicles and officers responded to the scene.
Details as to why the suspect initially fled were not immediately available.
