Survivors of I-10 bus crash reunited with family members near four hours after the deadly wreck

PHOENIX - Sixteen people were on board the charter bus at the time of the crash, and nine people were transported to the hospital.

The remaining survivors were reunited with relatives nearly four hours after the crash, at the office of the bus company, TBC Connecion, near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road.

"It was full of smoke," said Carmen Ruiz, a passenger. "There was another passenger stuck in between the wreckage. We got out what ever way we could."

Ruiz clutched her grandson's hands during the interview with ABC15.

She wept as she hugged her grandson and daughter for the first time since the wreck that claimed one life.

DPS said that many of the people on the bus lived in Mexico, and were coming to the Valley to visit family for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
