Arizona's state library is shedding some printed materials, making them available to the public for free, as it increases its digital reach.

The library is discarding international law materials as well as law journals that aren't related to Arizona and that are available online.

The library says the material being discarded will be offered to the public beginning Oct. 17. The books will be displayed just outside the library, which is located on the third floor of the 1938 Addition to the State Capitol at 1700 E. Washington St., Phoenix.

State Librarian Holly Henley says the books have outlived their usefulness as the library embraces the digital future.

She says people taking the books could include them in their own collections or repurpose them for decoration or book art.
