SRP customers break energy record on Wednesday

PHOENIX - How hot has it been in the Valley lately? Hot enough to break an energy record on Wednesday.

The Salt River Project said for the first time since 2012, SRP delivered a record amount of energy to Valley customers.

According to SRP, the electricity use peaked between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. with a demand of 6,707 megawatts. That breaks a previous record of 6,663 megawatts on August 8, 2012.

SRP said they were able to handle the demand based on new technology, the new units at the Coolidge Generating station and the SRP wind and solar facilities.
